
The mayor of Santander and the vice-president of the Government of Cantabria chair a working meeting to advance in the organization of the BWF World Junior Championships presented by YONEX Santander 2022, during the visit of the Major Events Managerr of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), Venugopal Mahalingam.
The event is held from October 17 to 30 at the Palacio de Deportes and will include a cultural day to connect the players with Santander city through different activities.
The countdown to the 2022 Santander Junior World Championships is on. The institutions involved in the organization of the event, which takes place from October 17 to 30 at the Palacio de Deportes of the capital of Cantabria, held a working meeting because of the visit of the BWF Major Events Manager, Venugopal Mahalingam.
The meeting with Mahalingam was attended by the mayor Gema Igual, the vice president and councilor for Universities, Equality, Culture and Sports, Pablo Zuloaga; the regional director of Sports, Mario Iglesias; the director of CANTUR, Bernardo Colsa; the president of the Spanish Badminton Federation, Andoni Azurmendi; the president of the Cantabrian Federation, María Luisa Pérez de la Torre; and the Councilor for Sports Felipe Pérez Manso.
The Santander 2022 Junior World Championships are organized thanks to the support of the Santander City Council (through its Department of Sports), the Government of Cantabria (through the General Directorate of Sports and the General Directorate of Tourism), and the Superior Sports Council. The Spanish Badminton Federation and the Cantabrian Badminton Federation are the main organizers with the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
The first week is for the team competition and the second, for the individual one. On October 23, between one competition and another, will be the time for the traditional cultural day with different activities for all the players.
The event will involve to more than 1.500 people: There will be more than 600 players, with another 600 accompanist and around 200 members of the organization.
